FC Cosponsored Show
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

Caji, a distinctive guitarist in the Brazilian style and unique singing interpretation redefines the grooves from his hometown, Salvador, Bahia. He released is first solo work in 2004 with Indie record company AmazRecords, with the participation of an exceptional team of fine jazz musicians. www.cajidabahia.com

Salomé, from Azores Portugal, joined him not too long after, as a percussionist and vocalist, with her passion for Brazilian music and her impressive cultural background.

Together they extended the musical language to a mutli-cultural expression. They represent and explore a vast universe of musical styles that are interconnected. While the main influence is Afro-Brazilian, which includes bossa-nova, samba, and afoxé, they incorporate reggae and other world music styles such as bolero, morna, and fado into their unique sound. With her ability to sing in four different languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English), and his sensitivity to musical language, and rythms, they are able to bring to the music of the world, including Brazilian, Cuban, French, Peruvian, Cabo Verdian and Portuguese, a special sensitivity to the rare beauty of these cultures. They released a CD project blending their passion and fascination for acoustic world music especially for the melodies and rhythms of Brazil. Using the organic power of acoustic instruments, like the nylon string guitar, surdo, pandeiro, conga, together with innovative vocal interpretations, Caji and Salomé transport the listener to Brazil and beyond...Cartão Postal Acústico / Acoustic Post Card", was recorded and produced by master engineer, Kyle Harris http://www.myspace.com/cajisalome

Kate Wolf's career, like her life (1942 - 1986) was relatively short, but it has had a lasting impact on the folk music scene, spreading far beyond her native northern California. She recorded 8 solo albums before her untimely death following a bone marrow operation for leukemia in 1986. Other material was released later, and in 1998 Treasures Left Behind: remembering Kate Wolf, an album of her songs, performed by many distinguished artists (including Nancy Griffith, John Gorka, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Greg Brown, and Nina Gerber, who was Kate's long time guitarist and friend), was released. The Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival takes place every year in Northern California and many, many musicians continue to discover and to cover her songs.

In this show, three well-known singer-songwriters from the Santa Cruz area, Sherry Austin, Sharon Allen, and Ginny Mitchell, will, as devoted fans, present their interpretations of Kate's songs, accompanied by members of The Sherry Austin Band, Steve Perez on guitar and Lisa Burns on bass. Please join us for this special event. http://www.sherry-austin.com http:// www.sharon-allen.com http://www.ginnymitchell.com

Redhouse Records recording artist, Ray Bonneville, returns to Fiddling Cricket for his annual appearance, after an extensive British Isles tour with Tim O'Brien. His almost antique guitars and footboard percussion are augmented by smoky vocals mixed with outstanding rack harmonica playing (he started musical life as a harp blues player). His unique, roots influenced, country blues style captures new fans wherever he goes. Ray has played all over the continent for 30 years, with "home" being Quebec (where he was born), Boston, New Orleans, Paris, Colorado, Seattle, Alaska (where he was also a bush pilot), Montreal and now rural Arkansas. A citizen of both Canada and the US, and bilingual, he is also well-known on the European circuit, where he tours with J.J. Cale and Robert Cray. Ray has 6 solo CD's to his credit and appears on many others. His 3rd CD, Gust of Wind, won a 1999 Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy). His 4th, Rough Luck captures his work undiluted - live, one man, no overdubs. His latest, Goin' on Feel, released this year, stretches him into new territory with gritty production and raw Americana instrumentation. http://www.raybonneville.com
