Incendio in both Italian and Spanish means "fire" and this moniker is fitting for a musical group whose sound is all about energy, exploration, and passion. At the heart of Incendio 's sound is the Latin or Spanish guitar which can conjure up romantic as well as powerful and bold images. The core group, made up of Jim Stubblefield (guitar), Jean-Pierre Durand (guitar/guitar synthesizer), Liza Carbe' (bass), Joe Shotwell (drums/percussion) and Nicole Falzone (drums/percussion) refers to their music as "Latin Guitar World Fusion" which yields to the listener a strong mix of songcraft and improvisation couched in a variety of musical contexts. www.incendiomusic.com

Imagine how hot the Latin blast furnace will get when mandolin and percussion showman Joe Craven from the David Grisman Band plays with Incendio tonight. This is what Jambands.com had to say about Joe's CD Django Latino "Craven enhances [Django Latino] by providing an instructive musical travelogue, which takes us to such locals as Cuba, Brazil, Haiti, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Spain, Argentina and the United... The notes for each track are illuminating." www.joecraven.com

The Mitguards /Sherry Austin and Friends
Americana, Folk, Country and Contemporary
Friday, May 18th, 8.00pm $15/$17
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

The Mitguards, a husband and wife team consisting of Chris (guitar, banjo and vocals) and Deb (mandolin and vocals), hail from Manitou Springs, Colorado and play a hybrid of American roots music that includes traditional folk, country, swing, blues and bluegrass. Chris is the songwriter, crafting strong story lines that cast an unflinching eye on the world around, unlike the nostalgic view taken by many acts. His influences range from Hank Williams and Johny Horton, to Mississippi John Hurt. Deb's influences range from Joni Mitchell to Del McCoury. They have just finished their second album, Ridin' with the one I love. In live performances they play hard and always aim at the hearts of their audience. www.themitguards.com/welcome.htm

Sherry Austin sang and played in college, but all the many other roles in life took her away from music, until more than 20 years later the right time came along for her to let music take center stage. She has been center stage herself for several years now in the Santa Cruz music scene, both as a performer and as a stalwart volunteer helping to keep live music going. Sherry has two beautiful CDs, Drive By Romance, and the just released Drive on Back. She rightly calls her material pure Americana - a mixture of classic folk, country-folk, and folk-rock, and she sings only where its comfortable - no screaming or stretching. Her compositions, and the covers she chooses, show off her warm contralto voice and fully engage the audience with her lyrical skills and clarity of delivery. I very much subscribe to the view expressed below. www.sherry-austin.com/

" In her unassuming way, she is a much bigger talent than she gives herself credit for" - Brad Kava, SJ Mercury News

Paul Geremia plus Eric & Suzy Thompson
Very Rare Reunion - Legendary Swamp Rockers
Thursday, May 24th, 8.00pm $10 adv./$12 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

For forty years, Paul Geremia has survived solely by the fruit of his musical labors. Having abandoned all other means of support in 1966, he has been traveling far and wide ever since throughout the U.S.A. , Canada and Europe . In the years since, Geremia has built a reputation as a first rate bluesman, songwriter, a "scholar" of early blues, and one of the best country blues fingerpickers ever with his tools - six and twelve-string guitars, harmonica and a husky soulful voice - and with an innate sense of the humor as well as the drama of the music, he keeps traditional blues fresh and alive with his performances. Combining his interpretation of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, Scrapper Blackwell and Blind Blake, with his original compositions, he has created a style which is very much his own and which has received accolades in the U.S.A. and Europe, too numerous to mention. http://www.paulgeremia.org/

Eric & Suzy Thompson: Eric Thompson's earliest bands were the Black Mountain Boys (with Jerry Garcia and David Nelson ) and Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions. He quickly became nationally known as an exceptional lead flatpicker, winning the World Championship Cup at Union Grove , North Carolina with the New York Ramblers (with David Grisman ). Suzy Thompson's latest CD, Stop & LIsten: Live at the Freight, on the Arhoolie label, was released in February, 2005. As the title indicates, it was recorded before a (very) live audience at Berkeley 's Freight & Salvage, in April 2004, and (like No Mockingbird) is a mix of oldtime fiddle rags and blues songs. Eric and Suzy fronted the legendary Blue Flame String Band. http://www.ericandsuzy.com/ericandsuzy.htm
