Sarah Elizabeth Campbell with Nina Gerber
Wise voice, wide guitar
Thursday, January 11th, 8.00pm $10 adv /$12 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Sarah Elizabeth Campbell writes songs from her heart. She sings them that way too. Furthermore, she has a keen intuition that aims her toward other people's songs which she then makes her own. A gifted artist can do that, you know. My admiration for this woman's work began when I heard "Geraldine and Ruthie Mae" as sung by Laurie Lewis on the 1988 Blue Rose album. It continued when Sarah Elizabeth sent me home from a trip to California with new tapes (with the requisite, "sorry, the mixes are crummy", which they weren't!). And now Running With You brings me up to date. From her beautiful version of ‘Love Hurts' to her own ‘Just Out Of Reach' , listen to this wise and mellowed voice telling you things about her heart and its choices that mirror and make sense of your own. A gifted artist can do that too. Nothing self-conscious here, nothing calculated. There is a place for music like this, in our tape deck, in our hectic lives, in our living room, in our CD player, in our car, in our jogging pack, on our radio....It is about, among other things, listening and learning, giving in to love and falling back out. Sarah Elizabeth writes these kinds of songs, as only a gifted artist can.” -Mary Chapin Carpenter www.myspace.com/sayraliz

Accompanied by master guitarist Nina Gerber ."Nina's guitar style is wide and brave…she uses each of her guitars as if it's the one she was born to play. Acoustic or electric, she sounds beautiful, smokey, precise, full of the licks you love to hear, even though it sounds like you're hearing them fresh, for the first time, and some of them... you are. She's a player, folks... we're lucky to have her near..." - Herb Pedersen www.ninagerber.com

Ray Wylie Hubbard
Legendary Texas Troubador
Sunday, January 14th, 7.00pm $14 adv /$16
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

When F. Scott Fitzgerald issued his classic conclusion that ‘There are no second acts in American lives,' he failed to envision the career of legendary Texas troubadour Ray Wylie Hubbard. A willing conspirator in the late seventies Cosmic Cowboy revolt that ushered in the mythical Outlaw era, Hubbard was a catalyst in the cultural upheaval that led to the peaceful coexistence of Lone Star music enthusiasts who comprised each end of the social and political spectrum of that troubled time. In the stellar company of iconic colleagues like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Doug Sahm and Jerry Jeff Walker , Ray Wylie Hubbard was an architect of the musical legacy that continues to inspire subsequent generations of up-and-coming Texas talent. See the new video with Ringo Starr giving a rave review of just a few albums by Bob Dylan and Jerry Lee Lewis and including Snake Farm by Ray Wylie Hubbard at www.raywylie.com

Dakota Dave Hull : Hailed by everyone from Dave Van Ronk to Doc Watson, from the Washington Post to Downbeat, Dakota Dave Hull's guitar style spans a wide musical geography to create an infectious, uniquely personal blend of jazz, ragtime, folk, blues, Western swing, and vintage pop. A gifted composer as well as a strikingly original interpreter of older tunes, Dakota Dave calls what he does "classic American guitar." Folk legend Van Ronk called Dave "one of the best guitarists in the world." Most of all, Dakota Dave's music is great fun. As Ranger Doug of Riders in the Sky puts it, "There is an imp within Dave Hull that always expresses itself on the fretboard; a witty, intelligent yet respectful imp..." www.dakotadavehull.com

Paul Asbell: From his early years, playing blues on Chicago's South Side, to his present multi-faceted career based out of northern Vermont, Paul has earned an underground reputation as a true "musician's musician". He has played and recorded with Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Earl Hooker, Lightnin' Slim, Paul Butterfield, Pops Staples, Donny Hathaway, and numerous others while in his hometown of Chicago, Ill. www.paulasbell.com
"I've been a fan of Paul's guitar playing for quite a few years -- I think he's one of the best-kept secrets in American music today!" - David Bromberg

Eliza Gilkyson plus Tony Gilkyson

under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Reviews of Grammy Nominated Land of Milk and Honey : “Gilkyson's latest gives no quarter with songs as excellent as they are raw and brutal. Her gift is the ability to mask razor-sharp words in deceptively easy melodies and make the expression of personal longing just as devastating.” (4 stars) - Austin Chronicle

Gilkyson doesn't pull any punches. She graces the music with her lush and passionate voice; a dark and lonely sound, hope and satisfaction, and edgy lyrics with piercing imagery round out the whole.” - NY Times

[Milk and Honey ]is a must-have album for anyone turned on by intimate, seductive vocals, killer melodies and lyrics that hit the heart and refuse to leave. Cue the repeat button” – BBC Radio www.elizagilkyson.com

Tony Gilkyson played guitar with the Los Angeles band X for 10 years, starting with the acclaimed album See How We Are and continuing through the all-acoustic live recording X Unclogged.
