Led Kaapana's mastery of stringed instruments, particularly slack key guitar, and his extraordinary baritone and leo ki`eki`e (falsetto) voices, have made him a musical legend. He has been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years. With easy-going style and kolohe (rascal) charm, he has built a loyal corps of Led Heads from Brussels to his birthplace on the Big Island of Hawaii. Recognition by his peers earned Led 4 Grammy nominations in his own right and 2 wins on slack key compilations. Like so many Hawaiians, Led grew up in a musical family. In the tiny black sand bay village of Kalapana, there were few distractions. "We didn't have electricity, no television, not even much radio," says Led. "So we entertained ourselves. You could go to any house and everybody was playing music." Often everybody was playing music at a backyard party, many of which lasted for days. "People played in shifts, taking over when somebody went to sleep," Led recalls. "You'd fall asleep to the music, wake up and the music was still playing. That was the best alarm clock I ever had!" https://ledkaapana.com

Fran Guidry's CD called Kaleponi, is all solo acoustic slack key instrumentals, mostly traditional pieces, with a few choice originals. Fran will accompany Led for an unforgettable evening of Hawaiian music and more. http://www.kaleponi.com

Chuck Brodsky is a storyteller, a songwriter, a troubadour, a modern day bard. His wit and irony, down-to-earth warmth, and quirky, rootsy, finely crafted songs tell stories of oddball and underdog characters. His songs celebrate the goodness in people, the eccentric, the holy, the profound, the courageous, the inspiring, the beautiful. They poke fun at what needs poking and sometimes challenge what needs to be challenged. They’re sworn to tell the truth.

Over the past 25 years, Chuck has performed at festivals and in concerts all across the USA, Canada, Ireland, Denmark, England, Israel, Lithuania, Latvia, Wales, and the Shetland Islands of Scotland. He’s performed three times at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and 22 of his Baseball story songs have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame’s sound recording library. https://www.chuckbrodsky.com/

Following up on last year's show by Abbie Gardner, one third of Red Molly, this January we have fabulous vocalist, Molly Venter, also one third of Red Molly, gracing our stage with husband and guitarist Eben Pariser, in their duo project, Goodnight Moonshine.

"few singers turn first time listeners into eternal fanatics as effortlessly as Molly Venter" says American Songwriting Magazine. Molly's trademark, the emotional potency of her voice, can change from a sweet moan to gritty shout and back, and is surrounded and supported by a landscape of harmonies and minimalist orchestrations conceived by Eben, on vocals and electric guitar. Venter's voice has caught the ear of industry giants, and been prominently featured on television, Apple Computers, and in Warner Brothers films. Willow Tree was a #1 hit on the folk charts in 2014 and was featured in USA Today.

Co-writing often, the couple uses the creative process to explore a healthy authentic relationship. Both wholesome and irreverent, they sing of grief and joy in equal measure; Molly gives smooth delivery to Eben's assertions while Eben gives form and focus to Molly's raw passion. Courageous unveiling and depth of experience make the collaboration between this married couple, and now parents, addictively captivating. Their music encourages listeners to embrace opposing desires, and to challenge as well as support each other. Consummate performers, Molly and Eben have also appeared nationally and internationally, 100+ shows a year, with their respective bands Red Molly and Roosevelt Dime. https://www.goodnightmoonshine.com/

Catfish Keith plus Preacher Boy
County Blues, Delta Blues, Slide Guitar Blues, Folk Blues--Two Great Recoding Artists
Wednesday, January 30th, 7:30pm $12/$15
<21 w/parent
FC Cosponsored Show, Presented with Snazzy Productions
AT MICHAEL'S ON MAIN
2591 Main St, Soquel, CA 95073, Reservations online or call 831 479 9777

Experience an evening of acoustic blues with pioneering singer-guitarists Catfish Keith and Preacher Boy. These acclaimed masters both honor and reinvent the country blues tradition through their innovative songwriting, fingerpicking, and slide guitar styles. This will be a foot-stomping showcase of raw, acoustic blues at its finest. Catfish Keith is a world-touring acoustic blues pioneer who has established himself as one of the most exciting country blues performers of our time. Catfish's innovative style of foot-stomping, deep delta blues and American roots music has spellbound audiences the world over. He has reinvented the guitar with great power and artistry, and brings a rare beauty and vitality to his music.

A three-time Blues Music Award nominee for BEST ACOUSTIC BLUES ALBUM, both Catfish's Honey Hole and Mississippi River Blues albums were considered for GRAMMY AWARD nominations in three categories. Catfish has seventeen NUMBER ONE independent radio chart-topping albums to his credit, and packs houses all over the world with his dynamic stage show. A 2008 inductee into the IA BLUES HALL OF FAME, the 40-year veteran has performed thousands of gigs, touring the USA, UK and Europe dozens of times to wide acclaim, headlining major music festivals, and appearing with legends John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Robert Cray, Koko Taylor, Taj Mahal, Leo Kottke, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Johnny Shines and many, many others. http://www.catfishkeith.com/

Preacher Boy was one of the first modern artists to be classified as “Alternative Blues," and the label continues to apply. For nearly a quarter of a century—and across eleven albums and counting—Preacher Boy has been both honoring and redefining the country blues tradition through his darkly poetic lyrics, the unmistakable sound of his National Resophonic slide guitar work, and the raw urgency of his ragged baritone voice. The Rumble Strip is Preacher Boy's latest release, and it's as funky and hard-hitting as anything he's yet done. "Preacher Boy is somewhat like Keb' Mo' in his jazzing up of Delta blues styles, but with a more contemporary sound akin to Kelly Joe Phelps or Chris Whitley. The best cuts highlight his wonderful work on National Steel." — Rolling Stone http://preacherboy.com
