Santa Cruzian, Steve Palazzo, is this year's Santa Cruz County Arts Council Gail Rich Awards winner in the music category. These annual Awards recognize those who inspire our culturally rich community. Steve has been involved with music his entire life and his rich amalgam of traditional bluegrass, blues and old-time country music, along with an enormous repertoire, speak to a lifetime immersed in playing, building (as the 3rd employee of Santa Cruz Guitars) and teaching acoustic guitar. His mastery of American Roots guitar styles and heartfelt vocals always make for a compelling performance. He was a regular member of the local bluegrass group, Homefire, for many years; hosts many excellent house concerts; and, when he has time away from his prodigious teaching schedule, accompanies and sings with favorite local partners, like Charlie Rice and Rachel Goodman.

The show will feature Steve singing old-time country duets with Charlie and Rachel, performing a separate set with each of them. Both sets will be drawing heavily from the pre-Bluegrass 1930's era of classic "brother duets" by the likes of the Delmore Brothers, Blue Sky Boys & Monroe Brothers, right up through the Louvin and Everly Brothers. Former bandmate with Homefire, mandolinist Mike Osgood, has also threatened to join in the festivities.

Jeremy Kittle Trio: Previously of the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet, Jeremy Kittel has been a composer-arranger-collaborator for such diverse artists as My Morning Jacket, Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble, and Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn. He blazes through a Bach violin partita as easily as a Scottish reel, bringing the same intense focus and precision to both. For the last few years the Michigan native, now based in Brooklyn, has been diligently building his own repertoire of music for a wholly original new group. This Jeremy Kittle Trio show features mandolin phenom Josh Pinkham (named “the future of the mandolin” by Mandolin Magazine) and guitarist Quinn Bachand (who's toured with fiddling icons Ashley MacIsaac and Natalie MacMaster). Jeremy Kittle Trio's highly anticipated new album is set to release in April. http://www.jeremykittel.com

Kittel's group, with the mandolinist Joshua Pinkham and guitarist Quinn Bachand, takes the string band tradition to marvelously rarefied levels of collective virtuosity. Playing a repertoire from bluegrass to Bach to a strathspey and reel set--[they] sounded thrillingly spontaneous." - Times UK

Tracy and Patti are two of the Santa Cruz area's most popular and prolific musicians, playing separately and together in numerous collaborations as well as in their regular gig for the past few years, the now defunct Sherry Austin and Henhouse band. Both are multi instrumentalists, though Patti is usually seen with her lap steel guitars and Tracy with her standup or electric bass, and both are wonderful and versatile solo and harmony vocalists. Both are in constant demand as performers and session players. Last year Tracy fronted her own major show at Kuumbwa, as did Patti a couple of years before that. Both were sold out and were notable, not just for their individual performances, but also for the quality of musicianship they attracted to play with them.

You never know what you'll hear when Tracy and Patti sit down together. Join us for a night of pure fun as they float between jazz, Americana, Country, Folk, Hawaiian, blues and anything else that takes their fancy. www.pattimaxine.com
