Rita Hosking, a descendant of Cornish tin miners who immigrated to California, was raised as a mountain girl in Shasta County in a family where singing was very important. Her unique voice and sense of place and story have been captivating audiences in the US and the UK in coffee houses, folk clubs, performing arts centers and festivals big and small for the past 12 years, as well as resulting in 6 albums of her music. In addition to performing with her full band (Rita Hosking and Cousin Jack), she also performs in a duo, delivering her soul-stirring songs with authenticity, accompanied by her husband, Sean Feder, on sparkling banjo, soulful dobro, and occasional harmony. "Her songs are observational, political, and philosophical in an unaffected, organic way" (Songlines Magazine). http://www.ritahosking.com

Teresa Tudury was writing songs at 12, performing in SF nightclubs by 15, and for two decades wrote comedy and worked as a stage and screen actress in LA, in addition to her regular music gigs. She now lives in Sonoma. Her voice has been described as a cross between Bette Midler and Bonnie Rait (LA Weekly), perfectly complemented by her bluesy guitar work.

On stage it's a wild, wild ride with Teresa's magnetic personality, powerful singing, and a stream of side-splitting, self- deprecating humor. She has shared the stage with the best: Leonard Cohen, Lyle Lovett. Leo Kottke…… Her third album has just been released and the two earlier ones (1992 and 2002) rereleased. Some of you may have seen her when she headlined a Santa Cruz Live show at The Rio a couple of years back.http://teresatudury.net/

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, Reservations online or call 831-603-2294

Brazilian Born Singer, Composer and Pianist Claudia Villela from Rio de Janeiro pays a Tribute to Elis Regina, flavored with her own remarkable original compositions. The last time Claudia played the tribute to Elias Regina in Santa Cruz it sold out four days in advance. Get your tickets or make your reservations now.

Claudia Villela's voice gets all the attention, and it's easy to understand why. Her glorious five-octave instrument is one of the wonders of jazz, lithe and startlingly beautiful in every register. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, she sings mostly in Portuguese, interpreting lyrics with keen emotional insight and supple rhythmic command. A supremely inventive scat singer, she has honed a vivid vocabulary of sounds that can evoke the hollow thump of a tabla drum, the muted trumpet of Miles Davis, the insistent twang of a berimbau, the ethereal call of a flute, or the Stratocaster licks of Jimi Hendrix. http://www.claudiavillela.com

Elis Regina was one of the most ferociously talented singers to emerge from Brazil. She commanded the respect of Brazil's leading songwriters, who lined up for the chance to have her record one of their songs, and for much of her short life was the country's most popular female vocalist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elis_Regina

The Goodbye Girls are an exciting new quartet from Boston. These four musicians from the US, Canada, and Sweden formed the band out of a common love for old-time, traditional bluegrass and Swedish traditional music. Lena Jonsson on fiddle, Allison de Groot on clawhammer banjo, Brittany Karlson on bass, and Molly Tuttle on guitar & lead vocals are individually some of the best acoustic musicians around, and together they create a sound that is exciting, fresh and full of energy. With international tours under their belt, bookings at festivals like Newport Folk Festival & Stockholm Folk Festival, reaching #1 on the Americana airplay direct charts, The Goodbye Girls are turning heads right out of the gate. The band has a dedication to honoring the musical styles in which they are rooted, and together they are re-imagining the repertoire in a unique and exciting way. Their original material sits comfortably between a raging old-time tune, a traditional bluegrass song or a Swedish polska in a playful balance between new and old. http://www.thegoodbyegirlsmusic.com

Fiddling Cricket & Canyon Acoustic Society Concert Series 2017

Nell Robinson and Jim Nunally Band
Alt-Roots, Folkbilly…or whatever!
Sunday, July 30th, 7:30pm (doors open at 7.00pm) Tickets $15adv / $18 door donation
Presented by Snazzy Productions, Fiddling Cricket Concerts & Canyon Acoustic Society
AT THE UGLY MUG CAFE

4640 Soquel Dr, Soquel, CA 95073

Northern California musicians, Nell Robinson & Jim Nunally are touring this year with a brand new album, "Baby Lets Take the Long Way Home". Nunally is a Grammy and IBMA Award recipient and Western Open flatpicking champion, who has played with many west coast bluegrass bands (most notably the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, and John Reischman and the Jaybirds). His playing can also be heard in several TV and movie soundtracks.

Nell (aka Hilary Perkins) is hot off a tour for a PBS show/album featuring her, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, John Doe, and author Maxine Hong Kingston. She started her professional singing career later in life, "after 25 years of singing in my car". She honors her southern roots by taking, as her stage name, that of her Alabama grandmother.

Friends since 2009, Robinson and Nunally teamed up for a number of projects before falling in love. For Baby Lets Take the Long Way Home, they rustled up what became their dream team: pedal steel player Pete Grant (The Grateful Dead, Guy Clark), bass fiddle player Jim Kerwin (David Grisman, Jerry Garcia), and percussionist Jon Arkin (Lee Konitz, Gene Perla). www.nellandjim.com
