| Edge of the West is a rock n' roots jam
band that plays danceable, fun music with heart. Their quirky originals and
inventive instrumental journeys take you out there, and then bring it all back
home with good old hippie classics and soulful covers. The shows are always a
good party. Edge of the West mixes their own songs with eclectic selections
from a variety of genres. On any given night you might hear anything from
Johnny Cash to Grateful Dead to Sun Ra. Notes from the
underground drift like smoke signals to a strange, familiar place where old

| Local singer, Ginny Mitchell, returns to
The Mug with all things swing! Western, Hawaiian, and gypsy jazz. Her
band consists of ace steel and dobro player, Patti Maxine (also harmony
vocals), bass player and vocalist Tracy Parker, and swing guitarist,
Marc Schwartz (Hot Club Pacific’s lead guitarist). With
tight three part harmony and Marc’s Django style guitar this should be
great fun, just as it was about one year ago as our best attended show of 2015!
Ginny Mitchell released her first album in British Columbia, Canada where she also won Canadian County Music Association’s Best New Female Vocalist Award. The high-profile win eventually led her to tour throughout Canada and the US as an opening act for Tammy Wynette, k.d. lang, Ricky Skaggs, Asleep at the Wheel and Greg Allman. Her honest and soulful delivery has been compared to Emmylou Harris, Shawn Colvin, Linda Ronstadt, Roseanne Cash and the great Patsy Cline. Her independent CD, “Just to Hear Your Voice” released in 2006, received praise and airplay across the US. |

| Marc Schwartz has played guitar
since 1968. He holds a B.A. in music from New York University and has studied
with Studio/Jazz guitar greats Allen Hanlon and Milt Norman.
Marc’s diverse influences include Bireli Lagrene, Wes Montgomery, John
Lennon, Django Reinhardt, Joe Pass, Eric Clapton, Larry Coryell, Pat Martino
and Jimi Hendrix. An East Coast native, Marc has lived in California
off and on since 1975 and has performed with Larry Coryell, Bruce Forman,
Tony Green, Paul Mehling, Ninine Garcia and many others. Marc can be found
playing jazz guitar in many Northern California venues. Patti Maxine, lap steel virtuoso and Santa Cruz legend, is one of the hardest working musicians in our community. A session player in constant demand, Patti is a musical Swiss army knife, handling a wide variety of styles with ease, sliding gracefully from Hawaiian to swing, from R&B to rock, from blues to jazz and back again. As a young girl, Patti studied with lap steel master Elmer Ridenhour. She has recorded and collaborated with dozens of musicians including Mary McCaslin, Sherry Austin, Jayme Kelly Curtis, Rhan Wilson, the Tiki Tones, Asylum’s Way, Freddie Roulette, Cyril Pahanui, Eddie Kamae, Patrick Landeza, John Cruz and Pipa Pinon. Tracy Parker, bass player and powerful vocalist, is well known and loved for her amazing vocal range and as bass player in Henhouse. She is often referred to as the k.d. lang of Santa Cruz. Her voice is perfectly suited for the Country standards and torch songs that always leave audiences calling for more. |

| Jim Kweskin is probably best known as a
singer and bandleader of the Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band that featured
Fritz Richmond, Geoff Muldaur, Bob Siggins and Bruno Wolfe. He
also created one of the bedrock guitar styles of the folk revival, adapting the
ragtime-blues fingerpicking of artists like Blind Boy Fuller to the more
complex chords of pop and jazz. He has maintained a remarkably consistent
musical vision since his jug band days, continuing to explore traditional folk
and blues with the sophisticated sensibility of a jazz musician and jazz with
the communal simplicity of a folk artist.

As a solo artist, she has headlined her own shows at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood, CA, opened for the Cheap Suit Serenaders and for David Bromberg, and toured as far as Australia and New Zealand. http://meredithaxelrod.com Suzy Thompson is a powerful blues singer in the styles of Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith and is unique in her ability to fiddle and vocalize at the same time. | While it might not be true that Chris Jones & The Night Drivers are, as one colleague recently said, "the most intelligent band in bluegrass,” it is true that few other groups range so widely across the bluegrass community. With three on-air bluegrass radio personalities in the band, they're almost certainly, as Lester Flatt might have said, the broadcastingest band in bluegrass, and with two journalists, a columnist and a media professor, they're probably the writingest, too. Founded by guitarist Chris Jones in 1995, The Night Drivers feature four distinct personalities who bring a multitude of talents to each performance. Indeed, the group boasts three broadcasters who appear regularly on SiriusXM's Bluegrass Junction — Chris Jones, banjo man Ned Luberecki and bassist Jon Weisberger — and Jones and Weisberger have won acclaim for both musical and industry achievements, with the former earning an IBMA Song of the Year trophy ( “Fork In The Road” ) and IBMA Broadcaster and Print Media Person of the Year awards. Australian singer-songwriter, Audrey Auld, was one of a kind: equal parts feisty, hilarious and true. It was through her songs that she was able to venture into the dark places of life and shine a humorous light upon them all while reminding us that we are all just "spiritual beings having a human experience". Audrey, who lived in Marin county, Nashville, and then back in California again, passed away on Aug 9th, after a battle with brain tumors, leaving a legacy of music that should continue to be heard. Nina Gerber, Jeri Jones and Pam Delgado have stepped forward to be among the first to keep bringing her songs to you. All three have at one time or another been honored to share her stage, most notably the incomparable guitarist, Nina Gerber, who performed with her on and off since 2005. Pam Delgado and Jeri Jones (2/5 of the band Blame Sally), in addition to several public appearances, also joined her towards the end at San Quentin prison to perform songs from her album Hey Warden, a collaboration with her beloved writing students on "the inside". Please join Nina, Pam, and Jeri at the Ugly Mug Cafe on January 31st, 7:00pm, for a special night celebrating Audrey and her music |
