Carolyn Sills and husband, guitarist Gerard Egan, moved out west, about 6 years ago, from the thriving New York music scene, where they played rockabilly and country and Carolyn also sang jazz with the likes of Les Paul. In Santa Cruz she has developed a well-deserved following, whether for the “Santa Claus is Real” 40’s and 50’s Christmas spectacular, now in its 5th year at Don Quixote’s, her “Patsy Cline Birthday Bash” (she can nail any Patsy song!), which has moved around from dive bars to Kuumbwa this year, or the Valentine’s Day double bill show at Kuumbwa with Henhouse. Late night she can sometimes be found performing rockabilly/western at Moe’s Alley or The Crepe Place.

So, it’s an honor to have the Combo play a rare acoustic show at the Mug, with Carolyn (lead vocals) on stand-up bass, Gerard on acoustic guitar and vocals and Sunshine Jackson, harmony vocals and percussion. Steel player, Charlie Wallace and percussionist, Jimmy Norris, may join them. The evening will consist of original from their debut CD and upcoming 2nd CD, blended with standards, country and swing covers. www.carolynsills.com

……her vocals resonate with a throaty anguish, torch songs straight from the heart…conjures up a misty past of dim juke joints and neon lit roadhouses…. The effect is mesmerizing" - Michael Dregni, Vintage Guitar Magazine

A native of Italy, Peppino D'Agostino emerged on the musical scene in the late 1980's and helped redefine the boundaries of the acoustic guitar. His virtuosic technique, penchant for open tunings, and percussive effects are the basis of his unique compositional style which has been inspiring musicians and audiences alike for years. Add to that his natural warmth, playfulness, and broad musical tastes and you have the recipe for what he calls “minestrone music”. D'Agostino continues to evolve and grow in ways that would have been hard to predict when he was first showcasing his melodic yet emotionally intense style on the recordings Acoustic Spirit, Close to the Heart, and Every Step of the Way, which was named one of the top three acoustic guitar albums of all time by Acoustic Guitar Magazine readers in 2008. The readers of Guitar Player voted him Best Acoustic Guitarist in 2007, and the following year in Acoustic Guitar's People's Choice Awards he won a Bronze medal for Best Acoustic Album of All Time for his 2002 release Every Step of The Way (tying with Leo Kottke, one of his prime inspirations). http://peppinodagostino.com
