The Sam Chase
plus West Coast WildFire
Friday, November 6th, 8.00pm $15/$15
21 and over only
FC Cosponsored Show Presented with Snazzy Productions
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL
6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, Reservations online or call 831-603-2294

The Sam Chase has a voice like a Nun on the lam with a mouthful cigarettes and curse words in a lonely bar, drunkenly dancing next to a broken jukebox. His songs are scribbled, not written, on lipstick and sweat stained motel bedsheets because he likes the way the ink bleeds. His guitar runs on diesel and leaks like the morning after too much Whiskey. His is a show you'll probably want to tattoo on your body so everyone will know that you knew him before he was cool. www.thesamchase.com

West Coast Wildfire: Combining elements of Soul, Bluegrass, Blues, and Rock'n'roll with a modern sensibility, San Francisco's West Coast Wildfire has created a unique sound all their own. From beautiful ballads to bar room burners, there is a little something for everyone. www.facebook.com/westcoastwildfire

Returning for the 5th time to our series, Henhouse delights their fans with their engaging stage presence, upbeat songs, and stellar harmonies. The band consists of Sherry Austin on rhythm guitar and vocals, Sharon Allen on vocals and guitar, Tracy Parker on bass and vocals, and ace steel player, Patti Maxine (also guitar and vocals). Their music covers the range from sweet love songs to gritty, rockin' songs about cars, trains, and love gone wrong. It consists of originals by Sherry and Sharon, as well as much loved covers by Americana artists, such as Kate Wolf, Townes Van Zandt, and Nanci Griffith. The blend of harmonies between the four women is exquisite. Singing with authority and passion, their distinctive blend of folk, country and rock is filled with warmth and conviction. All band members also play in various other bands in the area covering folk, swing, blues, and Hawaiian genres. www.hensinthehouse.com

"…an exceptional band. Sherry Austin's lovely, sensual voice, and best of all well-written and well-chosen, relevant material!" - Sleepy John Sandidge

Thad Beckman is currently best known in his role as Tom Russell's guitarist (2009 to now), including appearances on David Letterman and the Late, Late, Show. But for 25 years before that he was a solo acoustic artist performing across the US, Canada, and Europe in folk and blues venues and festivals, and opening for artists such as B. B. King and Emmy Lou Harris. Now he is again on the road as a singer-songwriter troubadour and we are delighted to have him solo on our intimate stage. www.thadbeckman.com

"Beckman plays an engaging blend of folk, singer-songwriter and blues music. Not everyone can pull off such a combination, but Beckman has chops, writing talent, a big personality and a bag full of true stories which all dovetail for a cool show. " - Jim Beal, San Antonio Express-News

Houston JonesSusie-Glaze

Houston Jones invites you into a world of musical virtuosity and storytelling ranging from the myths of ancient Greece to the red dirt back roads of Waskom Texas. The acoustic heart of the band beats with the passion of five lifetimes lived in a musical landscape of revival tents to Irish pubs, New Orleans to the Great Plains to Motown, a church in Cape Cod to a punk club in Berkeley.

Susie Glaze & The Hilonesome Band has been likened to the classic British bands Pentangle and Fairport Convention in that they blend classic folk music with rough-edged stories of tragedy and fate, all with orchestral arrangements sounding like chamber music gone folk! A lush newgrass Americana folk fusion quintet presenting gorgeous eclectic blends of mountain folk and exciting new grassy and Celtic-inspired originals, all with the remarkable voice of Susie Glaze. Winner of the Just Plain Folks 2006 Music Award for Best Roots Album for their debut CD "Blue Eyed Darlin,'"

Jimmy Chickenpants, who traditionally put the "hick" back in "chicken", is, according to John Sandidge of Snazzy Productions, "one of Santa Cruz' best-kept secrets". As a bluegrass/newer-grass/jazzgrass, folk and originals group they play regularly at the Pie Ranch barn dance every 3rd Saturday on Highway 1 in San Mateo. They last played in our series in 2012 and were regulars in the old Fiddling Cricket series in the San Jose area long before that. The band has two hot-shot instrumentalists in Hide Kawatsure (mandolin) and Ken Clarkson (banjo and dobro), a fine lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist (Joni Davies) and the rock steady upright bass of Jim Davies. Four part harmony rounds it all out! Their debut CD, Poultry in Motion, released a few years ago, is a fine addition to anyone's bluegrass/newgrass collection, with original songs and instrumentals. http://www.jimmychickenpantss.com

"Vocalist Joni Davies rides high along the bubbly numbers, mandolin player, Hide Kawatsure, picks with an absurd speed….bassist Jim Davies holds the bottom end firm, and Ken Clarkson adds mighty fine banjo and dobro to the mix" - Santa Cruz Good Times
