The Carolyn Sills Trio
Vinyl Favorites and Originals

Cosponsored with Brask Concerts

AT MISSION COFFEE ROASTING CO. FREMONT

2151 Washington Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539
Reservations at www.braskhouseconcerts.com, or email brundle@attglobal.net

Carolyn Sills moved to Santa Cruz from New York 4 years ago. The Big Apple's loss is definitely our gain! In NY she played with country/rockabilly outfits and sang jazz with the likes of Les Paul. Here Santa Cruz immediately took Carolyn to its heart, whether in her Patsy Cline Spectacular shows, or recreating the sultry torch vocals of the 40's and 50's, or in her "Santa is Real" sold out show last Christmas. Her red hot trio consists of Carolyn, vocals, Gerard Egan, guitar and vocals; and Jerry Logan, bass.) They will mix jazz standards, pop, rockabilly and western swing covers with originals in those styles. http://www.carolynsills.com

" ......her vocals resonate with a throaty anguish, torch songs straight from the heart...conjures up a misty past of dim juke joints and neon lit roadhouses.... The effect is mesmerizing".....Michael Dregni, Vintage Guitar Magazine.

Evo Bluestien , multi-instrumentalist & singer, brings to his music a rich legacy of American folk tradition, brilliant interpretation and original composition. Considered one of this country's most accomplished Appalachian-style autoharpists, Bluestein is equally known as a performer and teacher of oldtime fiddle, button accordion, guitar and banjo. His repertoire includes songs derived from Appalachian, Cajun, zydeco, blues and other styles of music. http://evobluestein.com

Michael Mullen performs looped jigs and reels and rocking acoustic folk that brings a uniquely Celtic twist to the term One Man Band. Michael has been known as a high-energy virtuoso fiddler for years--most notably as a onetime member of the well known Celtic rock band Tempest--and he has musically matured into one of the leading Celtic violinists. Michael Mullen's Trio Of One is his multi-faceted solo show, combining blistering Celtic folk with an underlying rock energy that always catches the crowd's attention. Utilizing the performance approach called "live looping" to maximize his impact as a solo musician, when he performs as the Trio Michael is not just a solo musician but rather he is a musical hydra with many heads and arms. Though a Scottish/Irish fiddler at heart, Michael's musical influences are legion, and his musicianship and energy drive the music forward like race horses being chased by a formula car. Sometimes there will be so much happening all at once that you would swear there must be three musicians onstage, but in fact Michael is up there by himself. A world traveling troubadour with a long string of recorded songs and albums, Butch Hancock has been called "one of the finest songwriters of our time" and is acknowledged by his peers and critics alike as one of the premiere singer-songwriters Texas has ever produced. His tunes evoke mystical visions of wind-swept dry-plains and his lyrics are profoundly imaginative, often displaying for his listeners the miracles that occur in the ordinary through creative irony and metaphors. His lyrical style has often been compared to that of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie and his songs have been covered by the likes of Emmylou Harris. Hancock is also a member of renowned country rock super-group, The Flatlanders, along with his lifelong friends, Joe Ely and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, a band they formed in 1972. During his acclaimed career, Hancock has written and recorded several landmark albums, some of them sparse and simple, others as big as the West Texas sky. After moving to the progressive country hotbed of Austin in the mid 70s, he started his own label (Rainlight) and released the quintessential West Texas Waltzes and Dust-Blown Tractor Tunes in 1978. In the years that followed he continued to release albums deep with meaning and memory, a foundation that cemented his world-wide reputation as a master wordsmith. http://www.butchhancock.net
