Bill Coulter, Aria DiSalvio, John Weed Celtic & World Trio
Contemporary Celtic Phenoms

Thursday, August 1st, 7.30pm $12/$15
<21 w/parent

FC Cosponsored Show
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, Reservations online or call 831-603-2294

The dynamic acoustic trio of guitarist William Coulter, cellist Aria DiSalvio, and fiddler John Weed will mesmerize and delight with their unique, artful arrangements of traditional and contemporary tunes. Fusing folk styles from Ireland, Scotland, Sweden and Spain with modern influences results in something both ancient and cutting edge -- a rhythmically vibrant, melodically engaging chamber-folk music at home in the concert hall or intimate venue.

William Coulter has been performing and recording traditional music for over 20 years. His most recent recording, The Road Home, is a critically acclaimed solo project on the Gourd Music label. In 2005 he was awarded a Grammy for his contribution to The Pink Panther, a collection of solo guitar arrangements of the music of Henry Mancini. Musical collaborations have been a mainstay of his career and have included many tours and recordings. Song For Our Ancestors with the great classical guitar virtuoso Benjamin Verdery, Time to Sail and One Sweet Kiss, with Kerry-born Irish singer Eilis Kennedy, Simple Gifts- Music of the Shakers, and Celtic Requiem, with Irish singer Mary McLaughlin. Since 1997, he has acted as musical director and toured nationally with A Celtic Christmas.http://www.williamcoulter.com

Aria DiSalvio grew up playing her cello in the vibrant musical community of Ann Arbor, Michigan. After receiving her BMA in cello performance from the University of Michigan, she moved to Santa Cruz, California – seeking change and adventure. She found much of both as she discovered the wonderful world of Celtic music and joined the growing number of cellists seeking to stretch the limits of traditional cello technique and style. It has been her honor to perform with musicians such as Cape Breton Fiddler Andrea Beaton, master Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser, folk/pop singer and fiddler Laura Cortese, Grammy Award winning Trumpeter Roy Hargrove and Roy Malan, concertmaster of the San Francisco Ballet. This season she is very excited to be performing with her new yet-to-be-named Celtic trio (with John Weed on fiddle and William Coulter on guitar) as well as with the Santa Cruz County Symphony. http://ariadisalvio.com

John Weed, fiddler for Molly's Revenge, Story Road, and Little Black Train, is a classically trained violinist who's spent the last 20 years immersed in various fiddle styles. John lived in Ireland in 2000 and taught fiddle workshops at the Flowing Tide International Music School in Doonbeg, County Clare. He has honed his skills since, attending the Frankie Kennedy Winter School in Dunlewey, County Donegal where he studied with Ciaran O'Maonaigh and Dermot Mcloughlin. Having an affinity for American fiddle styles, John explores the connection between Irish, Scottish, and old time fiddle. http://johnweed.wordpress.com

Soulful, classically trained local violinist, Laurel Thomsen, teamed up with prolific Canadian singer-songwriter, Rambling Dan Frechette (guitar) when they met last year on-line, no less, and quickly developed a passionate musical synergy. This led to a California tour this spring, where their final show took place at The Mug. It was so enthusiastically received that we had no hesitation in asking them back for a second show within 6 months, something we have not done in this series before.

Laurel teaches and plays folk, Celtic and classical violin, authors articles on-line and in print, and was the founder of The Brightside Band. She also has a great harmony singing voice. Dan, from Winnepeg, has written over 1300 songs and toured over 200,000miles since, as a teenager he originally signed for EMI publishing in Toronto. He has released 9 "regular" albums and in 2012 released another 8 online! He's a roots, bluegrass and blues influenced folkie with a bad ass rock n' roll spirit. www.danfrechette.com www.laurelthomsen.com
