Jack Williams
Jay Howlett Opens
Singer-Songwriter & Outstanding Guitarist
Friday, April 6th, 8.00pm $20/$22
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.
2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.netThe short version is: Don't miss this show! Or as Chuck Brodsky said "if you ever get a chance to book this guy - do it! He is as good as it gets!"
The long version: Jack Williams' bio in itself is amazing, with a 54 year career playing folk, rock jazz, R and B, classical and popular music from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. In the 60's he was a hired gun guitarist/ band leader for John Lee Hooker, Hank Ballard, and the Shirelles, amongst others. Up to the 80's he played jazz trumpet and classical guitar, while also fronting a series of original rock bands as an electric guitarist. Since the 60's he has toured as a solo troubadour. His songs have been recorded by others ranging from Tom Jones to Tom Paxton. At times he has teamed up with other great singers - the late Harry Nilsson in 1973 and until 2002 with his friend, the late Mickey Newberry. Jack has 9 solo CD's of original music, plus involvement in many others. www.jackwilliamsmusic.com
"a musical style that's equal parts folk storytelling and Tin Pan Alley songcraft, delivered with the impassioned soul of an old blues singer..." - Kevin Oliver, No Depression Magazine.
Jay Howlett established himself as a true storyteller with his 1998 self-titled release. By his third release in 2003, Howlett had become a traveling singer-songwriter whose songs about small town America gained him awards and honors across the country. The classic stories of American life continued with Jay's fourth release, Carnival Lights, providing another look at America at its best. Small town celebrations, traditions, sorrows and sheer frivolity all find their way into Howlett's lens. Rolfe Wyer will accompany Jay on bass.
