Jill Knight Trio
(with Brynn Albanese of Café Musique)
Soulful Singer-Songwriter in a Band Setting

Jill Knight's powerful and soulful southern-tinged folk sound is unmistakable. A native of Savannah, Georgia, now resident in Cambria, California, she has, as a soloist, been a finalist in many national singer-songwriter competitions. She also loves to perform in a band setting and has appeared with Blame Sally a number of times. Recently she teamed up with Brynn Albanese, the effervescent violinist of Café Musique, and bass player Eric Williams to form the Jill Knight Trio. The soaring violin and deep pulse of the bass provide a great complement to Jill's powerful vocals and guitar playing. The Trio plays for us on a Northern California swing culminating in an appearance at the American River Festival in mid-September.

Jill Knight's soulful sound is unmistakable. India Arie once quoted, "I love great voices and when I heard Jill sing it stopped me in my tracks." She later asked Knight to be her opening act. Knight, a Savannah Ga. native delivers a southern texture to an Americana, bluesy, R & B feel that will take the listener on a wonderful ride. She was nominated for the LA music awards Best Female Vocalist, a finalist at the Telluride Troubadour competition, a finalist at the National Academy of Songwriters Songwriter of the Year competition, and a finalist in Billboard magazines, Best Unsigned Band contest. "With a voice that crests and tumbles like a waterfall, Knight is as elemental as the wind." - Sacramento News and Reviews . Jill Knight has teamed up with Brynn Albanese, the violinist from Cafe Musique and Eric Williams on the bass to form a mixture of sound that will transport the listener to another realm. The soaring texture of the violin and the deep pulse of the bass are a wonderful compliment to the stories that Jill Knight presents to her audiences through magical chord changes, soulful words with that golden voice attached to them. www.jillknight.com

Amy LaVere is a Louisiana born spitfire singer, entertainer, songwriter, band leader, upright bass player and actress. Her music is Americana combining a blend of vintage juke box country, gypsy jazz and southern soul. She has released three albums on Memphis Archer Records, and has multiple acting credits in major motion pictures. She played rockabilly queen and Elvis girlfriend Wanda Jackson in Walk The Line (The Johnny Cash flick) and continued with featured role in Black Sake Moan with Samuel L. Jackson. With her newest release, the singer/songwriter/upright bassist once again defies any effort at simple categorization. Her Died of Love EP finds Amy tracing around the darker edges of her lovelorn repertoire, but with a distinctive new sound honed on the road since the release of Anchors and Anvils. Throughout, she weaves back and forth between wild, driving folk rock and psychedelic-tinged dirges of desperation, heartache, and loss. http://amylavere.com

JT Nero: Critics describe as "slinky, vulnerable and reverent of the Memphis soul of yore," and Nero himself as "on the verge of breaking big-time." - Chicago Tribune Or, a "show stealer with his amazing R&B voice and off-hand stage commentary." - Festivalpreview.com. As a singer, he's a superb crooner and an equally powerful soul singer. JT has spent much of the last year touring solo and collaborating with Canadian roots champs, Po' Girl. Mountains/Forests is Nero's second solo CD in a cabin in northernmost Wisconsin. In the words of Nero, the trio is poised to "absolutely explode your mind and spirit, then rebuild them with love and gentle care." www.jtandtheclouds.comhttp://www.jtandtheclouds.com

Blame Sally
Songwriting Female Band: World Music, Superb Harmony, Super Instrumentalists
Saturday, September 24th, 8.00pm $20/$23

Four veteran female singer songwriters and accomplished instrumentalists banded together in San Francisco in 2000 to have a little fun and make a live CD, and, much to their initial amazement, found they were a hit group, Blame Sally, playing a powerful mixture of Americana, funky folk, jazz and world music. 11 years and 12 CDs later (6 band and 6 individual) they are headlining festivals and have a major record deal allowing them great freedom for touring. Their great strength is exquisite 4 part harmony, coupled with powerful lead singing, strong songwriting, and fine instrumental ability, and, best of all, a highly dynamic and exciting live performance. The individual members are Monica Pasqual (lead and harmony vocals, keyboards, accordion), Rene Harcourt (lead and harmony vocals, guitar), Jeri Jones (lead guitars, mandolin, harmony vocals) and Pam Delgarno (lead and harmony vocals, percussion and guitar). Rob Strom provides the bass line.

Blame Sally has played for Fiddling Cricket several times before 2005, but not since because we are now a very small venue for them. We are delighted they are able to return for this show, after which they will be on an extensive tour to Germany!

Rita Hosking & Cousin Jack: “Kitchen tables, springs, loss, miners, mountains, culture clash, trailers, stray dogs, loggers, hope, forest fires—Rita Hosking's country-folk music is this and more, and always fierce and lovely. Her delivery is, to put it simply, intense. "From the first time I heard Rita sing, her voice gripped me and did not let go," - Joe Craven. That voice, called a "soulful howl from the mountains" (California Bluegrass Association) is calling attention around the country. "This California girl comes by her mountain-music sensibility with true authenticity, with original songs deeply rooted in her family's frontier experience," - Dan Ruby, FestivalPreview.com. A descendant of Cornish miners who sang in the mines, Rita grew up with deep regard for folk music and the power of the voice. www.ritahosking.com

Misner & Smith bring a freshness and lyrical vitality you won't find anywhere else. At moments raw and powerful, and at other times hauntingly subtle, extraordinary two-part harmonies anchor Misner& Smith's unique and compelling original music. Megan Smith plays the upright bass and mandolin while Sam Misner plays guitar, and with stellar award-winning songwriting to boot. www.misnerandsmith.com

Butch Hancock plus Audrey Auld

FC Cosponsored Show and Presented with Snazzy Productions
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Flatlander great Butch Hancock has been called one of the finest songwriters of our time and is acknowledged by his peers as one of the premier Texas singer-songwriters. His lyrics are ingenious, excelling in metaphor and irony and displaying a world-weary trait, just as he is a master of seeing the miracle in the ordinary. In 1972, he formed The Flatlanders together with Jimmy Dale Gilmore and Joe Ely. They are back together and have been more popular than ever. Jimmy, Joe, Emmy Lou Harris and the Texas Tornados have all covered Butch Hancock songs. www.butchhancock.net

Singer-songwriter Audrey Auld's heart is in Country, Folk and Americana music with a presence as big as The Outback. Her songs are the wry and poignant observations of a Tassie girl living in California and Nashville for the past seven years. Audrey calls it "Music with the dirt left on." Auld is a memorable and uplifting entertainer. She's a spontaneous comedienne and a writer of humorous, provocative and soulful songs. A touring songwriter, Audrey won the 2006 MerleFest Song Contest and performed her winning song 'Losing Faith' with Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen) on guitar to a thrilled MerleFest crowd. http://audreyauld.com/
