Hot Club Of Cowtown
Wednesday, May 4th, 7.30pm $15/$15

FC Cosponsored Show with
AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Since their first recording in 1998, Austin-based Hot Club of Cowtown have grown to be the most globe-trotting, hardest-swinging Western swing trio on the planet. The first American band to tour Azerbaijan, they have opened stadiums for such artists as Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and continue to bring their brand of western swing to a wide range of festival audiences all over the world. But for guitarist Whit Smith, fiddler Elana James and bassist Jake Erwin, it has always been about staying true to their roots. Remaining willfully out of the musical mainstream, Hot Club of Cowtown have created an international cult following for their sonic personification of joy and unique sound inspired by their namesakes: “Hot Club” from the hot jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli's Hot Club of France, and “Cowtown” from the Western swing influence of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. http://www.hotclubofcowtown.com

This is bluegrass royalty. Eddie Adcock and Tom Gray were both in the pioneering bluegrass band The Country Gentlemen. Eddie Adcock is the first five string banjo player to play Carnegie Hall. Among the major-league talent emerging from the folk music boom of the late '50s were the Country Gentlemen , a D.C.-based quartet that introduced bluegrass to a generation of city folks and college students, people who had never heard of Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, or the Stanly Brothers. The Country Gentlemen in playing the old bluegrass standards but playing them "different," were in a sense the first newgrass group. Eddie Adcock was the band's banjo player and he was a player of distinction -- his style was as innovative as Don Reno's. Tom Gray is a bluegrass musician is widely considered one of the best bass bass players in the genre. He is probably best known for his bass bass playing with the Country Gentlemen and the Seldom Scene. The dynamic duo of Eddie and Martha Adcock (guitar and vocals) has become known as “the biggest little band in Bluegrass”—add Tom Gray to the mix and the dynamics are even richer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Adcock
