Monica Pasqual
Folk and World Music From a Singer-Songwriter, Composer, and Blame Sally Cofounder
Friday, December 1st, 7.30pm, $12
AT THE BLUE ROCK SHOOT

14523, Big Basin Way, Saratoga
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

Monica Pasqual, vocalist and keyboard player for Blame Sally, grew up as an un-Mormon in Salt Lake City, playing classical piano and apparently getting into trouble for using too much pedal while playing Bach.

Since Monica and three other singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists (Renee Harcourt, Jeri Jones, Pam Delgano) formed Blame Sally, they have been the talk of the town (San Francisco, that is) and have appeared at major festivals, as well playing for Fiddling Cricket three times. Monica's solo shows are warm, personal, and delightful. She gets to strut her stuff as a song-writer and singer, as well as an outstanding instrumentalist (piano, keyboards and accordion). Her material encompasses folk, world music, and pop. Her most popular composition to date is "If you tell a Lie", written on the inauguration of George W. Bush and since made into a video. Recently she has composed a Mediterranean Suite - songs about her relationship with that area as the daughter of a mother from Majorca.

Brian Joseph plus Lila Nelson

under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Brian Joseph is tall and bizarre and brilliant. He is known for not only his "exquisite tenderness and laugh-out-loud lyrics," but also for his outrageous live show, which teeters between mayhem and poignancy, hilarity and depth, great taste and less filling. He plays every musical instrument you've ever heard of, and gives a damn good shiatsu massage to boot. Brian's fourth cd is called If I Never Sleep Again, and is widely known to be the greatest thing in the history of recorded music. Kenny Edwards, who has been called "...one of the brilliant architects of the American Folk-Rock movement," co-produced the record, and he's a freaking genius. Listening to it is guaranteed to make you more sexually attractive, and will increase your odds of winning the lottery. Same goes for the other three awesome Brian Joseph records. Brian gave up his job as an actor (yup that was him you saw on TV) and now he travels around all over the place singing songs for people. Brian's show is a guaranteed good time. Everywhere he's ever performed has invited him to come back and do it again. Ingenious, fun and taller than most, Brian Joseph is coming to Don Quixote's to freak you out and leave you smiling. www.brianjosephmusic.com

Lila Nelson : With a knack for spotting the uncanny, the deliciously ironic, and the silent spaces between words " Lila Nelson delivers catharsis is spades, diamonds...and especially hearts." Her songs move from traditional folk to contemporary folk/Americana, to jazz, blues and ballad always finding a home inside of the rich stories that they tell. Her love of performance and her irrepressible sense of humor are reflected in the intimacy she creates with audiences big and small. Her work has been featured in theater, film, and dance productions world wide. www.lilanelson.org

Fiddling Cricket Annual Holiday Party Show - The Avalanche Choir with Michael Stadler
Good music, good cheer, and many prizes!
Saturday, December 16th, 7.30pm, $15
AT MISSION CITY COFFEE ROASTING CO.

2221 The Alameda, Santa Clara, CA 95050
call 831-475-4938 or email Brundle@attglobal.net

The annual Fiddling Cricket Holiday Party Show (our 10thth) is hosted by Dale and Marilyn Barcellos and the usual suspects: the Avalanche Choir. We were expecting last year's at Espresso Garden to be our last, but the rise of Mission City Coffee Roasting Companyas a music venue (new home of South Bay Folks, recently installed stage and lights) allows us to continue the tradition of the Holiday Show with the Avalanche Choir. Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and fine singer, Michael Stadler, plays an opening set.

The Choir, consisting of Dale and Marilyn, Jenny Stave, Paul Bridges and Larry Weisenborn, specializes in harmony with four lead singers, backed up by a battery of instrumental talent (guitars, mandolins, fiddle, banjo, keyboards, bass). The music ranges across folk, blues, bluegrass, swing, gospel, Celtic, standards and originals. The Choir does not get out much these days, but rumor has it they have been practicing hard for this event and intend to follow it up in the spring with another in a fancy recital hall, decked out in tuxedos, for a video shoot for posterity. If it takes place, Fiddling Cricket will be there.

So, come out and celebrate the end of another year, see old friends, and support the continuing existence of live music and music venues in your area.
