The Greencards
Bluegrass and Americana from Australia and England
Monday, June 5, 8pm, $10 adv./$12 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

The Greencards are determined to make history, not just repeat it. They're off to a good start. Though they're steeped in the tradition of bluegrass, The Greencards weave influences as disparate as Bob Dylan, Ricky Skaggs and The Beatles into a compelling new brand of acoustic music. They honor the past, but refuse to live in it. That's why they continue to push at the boundaries of bluegrass and Americana music. Texas music legend Robert Earl Keen says of their music, “It's the best bluegrass I've heard in 20 years.” The Greencards rapid rise to the top of the acoustic scene has been as natural and organic as the music they make . Kym Warner (mandolin), Carol Young (bass), Eamon McLoughlin (fiddle) are the Greencards. www.thegreencards.com

Peter Mulvey
plus Atkinson Kincheloe

under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Peter Mulvey's new album, The Knuckleball Suite (Signature Sounds), is a collection of thirteen new songs that aptly display why he has, over the length of his extensive career (this is his ninth solo release) been compared to such heavyweights as Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, and others. The album is vibrant, surprising, and in many ways, like a notch falling perfectly into a groove for a musician with a history as rich and diverse as Mulvey's. Critical acclaim for Mulvey has been consistent and enthusiastic over the years.www.petermulvey.com

THE WASHINGTON POST: "The subtle power of his voice, a husky, hushed baritone... understated, at once sophisticated and intimate... as cover-worthy as Randy Newman, Elvis Costello and Dar Williams."

Atkinson Kincheloe are Lisa Atkinson,George Kincheloe and Marty Aktinson It took a couple of gorgeous summers in British Columbia, some marvelous musicians, a small hidden jewel of a studio to make their new CD, Simple As That, which features 14 original songs performed by Lisa and George on guitar, piano, dulcimer and harmonica, backed by an incredible band of studio virtuosos including Marty Atkinson on guitars, dobro, mandolin, guitarron and harmonies Together, they have shared the stage with Pete Seeger, John Stewart, Tom Rush, and many others www.atkinsonkincheloe.com

Jamie Laval & Ashley Broder
Celtic
Thursday, June 15, 8pm, $12 adv./$14 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Jamie's music making is born out of his Scottish and Irish heritage. One of the premier Celtic violinists on the international music scene today, he consistently creates rapt audiences with his intensely passionate performances that run the gamut from tender and melancholy to wildly jubilant. Winner of the 2002 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship, Jamie was recently heralded in Scotland as "A new star for the Old World" (FiddleOn Magazine). www.jamielaval.com

The Olympian newspaper reported, "A fantastic fiddler… Laval captures the essence of Celtic sentiment and yearning."

And Virginia concert promoter Deborah Greer raved, "I've been producing shows here for 10 years and I have never seen a standing ovation after the first tune."

Ashley Broder hails from Camarillo, CA and is a two-time winner of the Western Open Master Picker Championship. There is an effortlessness about Ashley's playing. Whether it be a virtuoso mandolin solo break, a languorous 'cello line, a fancifully crafted ori! ginal composition, or a clear-toned tune from her fiddle, her music spins out like a sinuous ribbon of pure fun. Ashley routinely forays into blues, jazz, bluegrass, Old-time, Irish, classical, and Brazilian music. www.ashleybroder.com

Alison Brown Quartet
Thu. June 22 8pm $16 adv./$18 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Alison Brown achieved an international reputation as a banjo player by pushing the instrument out of its familiar Appalachian settings and into new musical territory. Many bluegrass fans are aware that Brown's first marks on the national scene came when she was asked by Alison Krauss to join her band Union Station in 1989. Through four albums on the renowned Vanguard Records label and one on her own Compass Records, Brown composed and played her way into the affections of fans of jazz-hued acoustic music with a unique voice on a relatively unexplored instrument. On her newest record, however, Brown brings her banjo back to its bluegrass roots and to her own musical beginnings. www.alisonbrown.net
