Wedesday, April 5, 8pm, $10 adv./$12 door
under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

In a darkened bedroom, lit only be the amber glow from an old floor model radio, two young brothers aged 6 and 12 lay in their beds, listening to the country music broadcasts from the Grand Ol' Opry, and practiced their harmonies. Two years later, the youngest one was playing the definitive 8-year-old's version of "Desolation Row" on his ukulele. Garnet Rogers soon abandoned that instrument to teach himself the flute, violin and guitar. www.garnetrogers.com

Brian Gore/ Richard Gilewitz
Split Bill of Two Virtuoso, but Quirky, Fingerstyle Guitarists
Saturday, April 8th, 8pm, $15
(This is the last Fiddling Cricket show at Espresso Garden in the present series…maybe forever if the café closes)

AT THE ESPRESSO GARDEN AND CAFE

Brian Gore is a Bay Area self-taught fingerstyle guitarist who has developed "one of the most unique new guitar styles on the scene today" (News and Reviews), and has emerged in the last decade as "a leading figure in the new acoustic music movement pioneered by the late Michael Hedges" (Contra Costa Times). In addition to solo shows he performs as the founder of the internationally successful International Guitar Night, where 2 to 4 musicians from different parts of the world tour together as a group. His latest CD, Legacy, has been described as "one of the best steel-string acoustic guitar recordings I have ever heard!" …. Tony Morris, producer/host of Classical Guitar Alive. http://www.guitarpoet.com

Richard Gilewitz is a virtuoso 6 and 12 string guitarist and composer, who has 4 solo CD's to his credit, and is known for his idiosyncratic style and zany outlook on life. He has visited us several times before, but has recently developed a "Fingerstyle Guitar Though Time" performance, which takes us through samples of European, Contemporary, and Spanish classical works to the Traditional Folk, Blues and American Primative eras - all adapted for the acoustic steel string guitar and incorporating his own arrangements and personality. Richard has shared stages with the likes of John Renbourn, John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Greg Brown and others. He is based in Florida, but tours extensively and internationally. He comes to us this time as a side trip from his "Gilla Camp" guitar camp, being hosted by Gilroy Guitar Gallery 7-9 April. www.richardgilewitz.com

"his playing is faultless, the production as clear as a pinged champagne glass"….SeeLife, Brighton, UK

From ABC's NIGHTLINE : "Who would think of moving classical music from the reverence of a symphony hall to a punk rock club? When we first discovered Matt Haimovitz, he was preparing to play New York's famed CBGB, an underground rock club that had never featured a classical artist. This was part of the Listening-Room Tour, Matt's effort to bring classical music to venues where people of his generation could listen to classical music in a relaxed setting."

"Haimovitz is a major discovery." Chicago Sun Times

"I salute Mr. Haimovitz for work that is truly pathbreaking, in that he is forging entries to alternate outlets for the music he loves." New York Times

"Matt Haimovitz may be the coolest cellist of our time." The Boston Herald

Matt will be touring with a new CD entitled Goulash. "Bartok meets America"; From Bartok to Led Zeppelin's Kashmir, cellist Matt Haimovitz brings middle eastern and Romanian folk music to the club. This will be a tour and celebration of folk music as art music. www.oxingale.com

Dale Ann Bradley Band

under 21 accompanied by parent

AT DON QUIXOTES MUSIC HALL

6275 Highway 9 in Downtown Felton, call 831-603-2294

Described by Music Row magazine as a "gentle mountain songbird with a shimmering delivery," Dale Ann has been making a name for herself within bluegrass circles and beyond since 1992, but she has been singing forever. She is most definitely a mountain songbird, born and raised in the small Eastern Kentucky town of Pineville, where she first sang in a Primitive Baptist church and at school contests. But Dale Ann is more quietly determined than gentle, her pure, sweet vocals backed by the force it takes to propel a small-town girl from her humble beginnings to the national respect and acclaim she and the band Coon Creek now hold. After two highly successful recordings, "East Kentucky Morning" and "Old Southern Porches", the new release, "Cumberland River Dreams," only further emphasizes their determination to keep moving forward. www.daleann.com
